YouTube Launches Experimental Redesign Named Cosmic Panda

Popular video sharing service YouTube launched a new experimental design on Thursday named Cosmic Panda. The new design brings a completely new experience as significant changes have been made to the look of videos, channels and playlists.

Playlists received the most notable makeover as they are now placed below the video a user is watching, and the new dark background really draws a focus on the video content. Cosmic Panda brings new editing tools and page designs enabling users to further customize their channels. Additionally, Chrome users can now keep watching videos while jumping between playlists, videos and channels.

“While you’re watching your favorite or new videos, we at the ‘Tube are obsessing night and day over how those videos are presented. Our team is constantly experimenting, tweaking and playing with new ways to make your experience exactly what you’re looking for,” YouTube Product Manager Noam Lovinsky and Software Engineer Alex Ncksay wrote in a post on YouTube blog.

You can try out the new YouTube redesign by visiting YouTube.com/CosmicPanda. If upon taking Cosmic Panda for a test drive you decide you liked the traditional YouTube design better, you can return to the Cosmic Panda page and select to go back to “older version.”

YouTube is inviting its users to send their feedback on the redesign as it will give the video sharing site “a chance to incorporate your ideas into future designs for YouTube.” “We’ll be making changes to the experiment regularly, so check back to see if some of your suggestions have made it onto the site or to give us more feedback on the latest updates,” YouTube blog writes.
